Made from galvanised steel or aluminium, DuraPost products are a significant step forward from traditional timber or concrete posts and timber fencing. In this guide, we’ll explore the benefits of DuraPost, the range of products available, and how to install DuraPost Classic fence posts.
What is DuraPost fencing?
Durability and low-maintenance
DuraPost is a revolutionary fencing system designed to outperform conventional wood and concrete fencing. While traditional fence posts are prone to issues such as rotting, splitting, and cracking over time, DuraPost is constructed from galvanised steel or aluminium, making it highly resistant to rust, rot, and weather damage. This modern fencing system is designed to last for years with minimal maintenance, providing a long-term, reliable solution for homeowners and landscapers alike.
One of the standout features of DuraPost is its resistance to wind, with the ability to withstand gusts of up to 100mph. This makes it ideal for areas prone to strong weather conditions. The posts are lightweight compared to concrete alternatives, making them easier to handle and install without sacrificing strength. DuraPost is also designed to be visually appealing, with a sleek finish that suits any garden or outdoor space.
Why choose durapost fencing products?
Wind-resistant and easy to install
There are several reasons why DuraPost is quickly becoming the preferred fencing system for many homeowners. Among its many qualities, DuraPost offers superior durability, far exceeding that of traditional wooden posts, which are susceptible to rot and insect damage. Concrete posts, while strong, can crack over time and are incredibly heavy, making them more challenging to install. DuraPost’s galvanised steel construction means it remains strong and intact over many years, even in extreme weather conditions.
DuraPost is also incredibly low maintenance. Unlike wooden fencing, which requires regular treatments to prevent rot or decay, DuraPost only needs occasional cleaning to maintain its appearance. This makes it an ideal solution for those looking for a hassle-free fencing option that won’t need replacing or significant upkeep. As an added benefit, the material used in DuraPost is 100% recyclable, adding an environmentally-friendly aspect to its long list of benefits.
Another key advantage is the ease of installation. DuraPost has been specifically designed to be user-friendly, with no need for brackets or clips that are common in traditional fencing systems. The posts and panels fit together seamlessly, making it easier and quicker to install than many other fencing systems.

How to install a classic DuraPost fence post
A step-by-step guide
Installing DuraPost Classic fence posts is a straightforward process, thanks to its innovative design. The lightweight yet durable galvanised steel construction makes handling and positioning easier than traditional concrete posts, while still providing strength and stability. Follow the steps below to ensure your DuraPost fence is installed correctly and securely.
Things you will need
Before starting your installation, ensure you have all the necessary tools and materials. This will make the process smoother and help you avoid any delays. You will need:
- DuraPost Classic fence posts
- Fence panels (compatible with DuraPost)
- Post hole digger or auger
- Shovel
- Concrete mix
- Water
- Level
- String line or stakes
- Tape measure
- Rubber mallet or hammer
- Protective gloves and eyewear
Step 1: Prepare your fence line
First, mark out the location of your fence line using stakes and string or spray paint. This ensures you know where to dig your post holes and keeps your posts aligned. Take care to check that the area is free of any underground utilities by using appropriate utility-checking services. Space the post locations according to the width of your fence panels, typically around 1.8 metres apart.
Step 2: Dig the post holes
Using a post hole digger or an auger, dig the holes for your DuraPost Classic fence posts. The depth of the hole should be about one-third the length of the post to ensure stability. As a general guide, if your posts are 2.4 metres tall, you should dig a hole around 80 centimetres deep. The diameter of the hole should be around three times the width of the post, giving you enough room to pour concrete and secure the post in place.
Step 3: Position the posts
Place the DuraPost Classic fence post into the hole, ensuring it is level and straight. Use a spirit level to check both the vertical and horizontal alignment of the post. Adjust as needed to make sure the post is perfectly upright. You can use small stones or timber wedges to hold the post in place temporarily while you prepare the concrete.
Step 4: Mix and pour the concrete
Prepare your concrete mix according to the manufacturer’s instructions. A typical mix will involve combining dry concrete with water in a wheelbarrow or mixing container until it reaches a workable consistency. Once mixed, pour the concrete into the hole around the post, filling it to about two inches below ground level. This will leave space for soil backfilling after the concrete has set.
As you pour the concrete, regularly check that the post remains level. Adjust the post if necessary to ensure it stays aligned while the concrete sets. Once the post is stable, tap it gently with a rubber mallet to help the concrete settle around the base. Allow the concrete to cure for at least 24 to 48 hours, following the manufacturer’s recommendations for curing times.
Step 5: Attach the fence panels
After the concrete has fully cured and the posts are secure, you can begin attaching your fence panels. DuraPost Classic fence posts are designed to work seamlessly with a variety of panel types, including timber and composite. Simply slot the fence panels into the posts’ ridges and channels. No brackets or clips are needed, as the panels fit directly into the posts for a strong, secure connection. Ensure the panels are level and adjust their position as needed.
Step 6: Backfill and finish
Once the fence panels are attached and secure, fill the remaining space around the posts with soil, ensuring that the ground is firm and even. This will provide additional stability for the posts and create a neat, finished look for your fence line. Clean away any excess concrete or debris from the installation area and give the fence a final check to make sure everything is securely in place.
