Get The Best From Your Gates

If occasionally cleaned and protected your gates will remain bright, clean and fresh.

Softwood Gates 

All our softwood gates are pressure treated to ensure that timber is protected against rot and insect attack and to give your gates extended, low maintenance service life. However, this treatment is NOT intended to perform as a waterproofing agent. To add this protection and to personalise them to a colour or finish that suits your individual tastes we suggest 'Treatex Classic Colours' available from the Fountain Store. If you require a clear finish, we suggest Treatex Sheer Oil or you can simply use Cedar Oil. Other quality products are also available but make sure that you follow the manufacturer's instructions and always do a trial test on the small area before applying it to the rest of the gate. 

Hardwood Gates 

We suggest Treatex product available in a simple sheer coating or a range of colours and stains that would best suit your taste and your gate. 

 To treat Sapele and other dense red coloured hardwoods Bankirai Oil is recommended. 

PLEASE NOTE: We strongly recommend that you DO NOT use iron fittings or fixings with Emeri products. Any fixings containing iron may cause the timber to release natural tannins and turn black around the point of contact, much the same way as oak releases a dark brown tannin. We also suggest you should not us wire wool in the finishing of Emeri as the shards of fibre left on the gate can also cause staining.
