How to install a classic DuraPost fence post
A step-by-step guide
Installing DuraPost Classic fence posts is a straightforward process, thanks to its innovative design. The lightweight yet durable galvanised steel construction makes handling and positioning easier than traditional concrete posts, while still providing strength and stability. Follow the steps below to ensure your DuraPost fence is installed correctly and securely.
Things you will need
Before starting your installation, ensure you have all the necessary tools and materials. This will make the process smoother and help you avoid any delays. You will need:
- DuraPost Classic fence posts
- Fence panels (compatible with DuraPost)
- Post hole digger or auger
- Shovel
- Concrete mix
- Water
- Level
- String line or stakes
- Tape measure
- Rubber mallet or hammer
- Protective gloves and eyewear
Step 1: Prepare your fence line
First, mark out the location of your fence line using stakes and string or spray paint. This ensures you know where to dig your post holes and keeps your posts aligned. Take care to check that the area is free of any underground utilities by using appropriate utility-checking services. Space the post locations according to the width of your fence panels, typically around 1.8 metres apart.
Step 2: Dig the post holes
Using a post hole digger or an auger, dig the holes for your DuraPost Classic fence posts. The depth of the hole should be about one-third the length of the post to ensure stability. As a general guide, if your posts are 2.4 metres tall, you should dig a hole around 80 centimetres deep. The diameter of the hole should be around three times the width of the post, giving you enough room to pour concrete and secure the post in place.

Place the DuraPost Classic fence post into the hole, ensuring it is level and straight. Use a spirit level to check both the vertical and horizontal alignment of the post.
